Sept 3rd: "When I grow up I want to be...." Feel free to answer as your 5-year-old self or as of now.

I love thinking about all of the things I wanted to be growing up because my imagination as a child was unreal, which is a beautiful thing if you ask me.

  • For many years I wanted to be a weather girl, I even remember drawing pretend weather maps on my Etch-a-Sketch and pretend I would be giving the weather report on the evening news. However, that dream sort of ended when I realized I wasn't all that great in my science classes and was even worse at math.
  • From there, I was convinced I was going to be a rock star. I even went as far to take up guitar lessons and teach myself guitar. That dream faded when I realized I'm rather introverted and would rather not dance around on stage. But, I know how to play the guitar out of that whole deal so it wasn't a lost cause.
  • I once thought becoming a radio personality would be my fate, that dream also quickly fizzled off when I remembered how much I dislike hearing my voice.
But, through it all, there was just one thing I was ignoring...
  • I always loved writing. My parents kept stacks and stacks of books and stories I wrote as a kid some they were all different genres (mostly weird, if that's a genre). I also kept diaries and journals. Then, as I got older I continued journaling. In school I was excelling in English and writing classes. My junior year of high school I had a communications teacher who was really great. She supported me and encouraged all of us to do what we were the best at. She inspired me to pursue communications in some form or another. So in my junior year of high school I began taking core Communication classes for college credit. I continued doing so my senior year so by the time I started college I was already well into my Communications program. It was when a girl, who is now one of my closest friends, who lived across the hall from me my Freshman year of college asked me to be on the college newspaper with her. The rest was history from there -- I knew I had to be a reporter and a writer. So, here I am reporting away!
What have you always wanted to be when you grew up?

    1. How cool! I don't think I would have even known what a jockey was when I was a child, to be honest! :-)

    1. Sometimes we need a little encouragement and/or a shove in the right direction! Life is funny that way, isn't it?
