Happy Birthday!

Today would have been my mother's birthday! It is days like today when I like to remember all the happy memories I was lucky enough to share with her. She was such a great role model for me growing up. It was from her where I learned to have a sense of humor, be an independent woman and to be upfront with people when you need to be. She was never without a smile on her face.
My mother was my best friend. I looked forward to chatting with her and my father everyday. In college, it was rare for a day to go by when I hadn't updated her on my day.

I looked forward to receiving mail from her in my college mailbox and could always count on her to make my favorite meals when I came home.
I still think about conversations I had with my mom and how much we would laugh together or talk about boys or just chatting about random subjects.

A New Tradition

Ever since my mom has passed away, I have made it a tradition to have lunch at Pizza Hut. It probably sounds strange, but there were many afternoons when my mom and I would play hooky from work or would sneak away over the lunch hour to get pizza from Pizza Hut. It was our girl's day. We would talk about boys or work or school.
Anyways, now I use her birthday as a day to remember all the best memories I was blessed to share with her!

Hello readers....if there are any at this point.

It has been AGES since I have written, consider this my apology. After finishing NaNoWriMo and writing daily at work, my brain was entirely fried, burnt out – useless!
But, now I am sort of better. I'm as good now as I will ever be again I suppose.

Let me share a bit of what I have been up to since I have last posted!

I celebrated Christmas! It was me and my fiances first Christmas in our new home, and it was awesome! We spent Christmas day baking cookies together (and consequently eating cookies), watching our favorite Christmas movies, playing board games and writing letters to Santa (one is never too old to correspond with Jolly Old St. Nick)
My car died, unexpectedly, at a stoplight, prompting our search for a new vehicle.
I finished my novel and am moving on to revision stages.
Celebrated a joint bridal shower with my best friend. I'm getting married in March and she is in August and we are maids of honor for one another. We had a blast celebrating together.
I had a reunion with my favorite group of girls! A group of girls I met in college and we all became best of friends.
We had an awesome time celebrating New Years in the Twin Cities, staying at a hotel and toasting along with the ball drop.

NaNoWriMo: what week am I even on?

Okay, so much writing...can't form full sentences for blog post.....look at picture. But in all seriousness, this is the first time dur...

Okay, so much writing...can't form full sentences for blog post.....look at picture.

But in all seriousness, this is the first time during this challenge that I have actually started to doubt things. Why am I doing this? How am I going to finish this? Etc.

Here's how I have gotten through:

• I opened my favorite modern women's literature books and thought about how cool it would be to say I finished a whole novel, in my free time.

• I went to social media and found others participating in NaNoWriMo and saw or even chatted with them about their progress.

• I kept my friends and family in the loop on how the writing is going so far. Telling people I'm on Chapter 16 and hearing them be genuinely surprised and happy about my progress makes me feel excited to continue making progress.

Word count update:

Day 19

33,591 words written

16,409 word to go

12 days to make it to 50,000

Hello friends!

I have been going full force on my novel writing project. And, it has been going well. I am almost to the halfway goal for NaNoWriMo.

Editing: I haven't been stopping to reread or edit too much which surprises me. With my writing at work I am constantly stopping to check my work and edit as I go along. That's the one thing I've found bout this experience; you don't have time to stop and edit if you want to achieve the word count goal.

Planning:

I did a lot of research, planning and outlining in the months leading up to November and I have found that really helps me stay on track while I crank out those words. That way if I start to get writers block I just check out my outline to remind myself of where I'm headed.

Technology:

The various forms of technology have really been my saving grace here too because I wrote almost 2,000 words by typing on the word process on my cell phone while Brice and I sat in the car for four hours.

Enjoyment:

Mostly, I am having so much fun with this writing project, that's what has really kept me going. I think about what my characters will get into next and I can't wait to keep writing to see how it all fits together. When I actually finish the first draft, I'm going to have a lot of editing work to do. Wish me luck!

Well, it's that time of year.. I've waited as long as I could but I cannot contain myself anymore. My true colors are about to come out and I'm not even sorry.

Here goes....

ITS ALMOST CHRISTMAS TIME!

Turn on Hallmark channel because they have their heads in the game already too! Next weekend our town hosts a holiday sampler, complete with hot chocolate, trolley rides, Santa and wooden cutouts of carolers who brave the winter weather 24/7 during the holiday season.

This year I will be going all out for holiday sampler (photos will be included later)
